Merseyside

Merseyside is a metropolitan county in the North West of England with a population of approximately 1,318,000.

Merseyside House Prices

While average house prices in Merseyside are on a par with those in Lancashire, they are generally cheaper than average house values in Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

The annual rate of average house price inflation in Merseyside currently stands at around 5%, which means that house buyers are currently paying around 5% more to buy houses in Merseyside than they were this time last year.

Furthermore average house prices in the county are also somewhat similar to what they were in 2007, before the onset of the global financial crisis and the ensuing housing market crash.

Average house prices relating to an area the size of the entire county of Merseyside can obviously only tell you so much. There are many variations across the region, which is better viewed as a collection of separate local housing markets as opposed to one large market.

A good example of this is offered by the difference between areas such as, for instance, Caldy and Walton. Residents of Merseyside will know that there is little point in comparing similar houses in these areas, due to the fact that average house prices in the former area are over six hundred thousand pounds higher than those in the latter.

If you want an individualised and accurate valuation of your property that truly reflects the value of your home, contact National Homebuyers. We offer fast, accurate, fully comprehensive, no obligation property valuations that take into account every variable affecting your home’s value.

Merseyside Tradition & History

Mesolithic hunter-gatherers settled in the area that eventually became Merseyside around 10,000 years ago.

Though there is slight evidence of Roman habitation of the area, it was not extensively settled during the Romano-British period. The Saxons settled in the area around 650 and Viking invasion and settlement began in the early 10th century.

The first wet dock in the world was built in Liverpool in 1710, By this point Liverpool had a set of docks, whereas most other places in the world only had one. The first circulating library in Europe was also founded in the city in 1759.

The county experienced massive expansion during the 18th century, primarily driven by increased trade, particularly in slaves. When local MP William Roscoe voted to abolish slavery in 1807 he was attacked on his return to Liverpool because many local residents saw the end of slavery as a threat to their prosperous existence. However, the expansion continued throughout the 19th century and trade continued to flourish, with 5 million tons of cargo passing through Liverpool Docks annually by the 1860s.
