Happy Customers

"National Homebuyers' staff were friendly and helpful and we went on to agree a sale with them; they even allowed us to change the completion date at the last minute to secure the property of our dreams."

Mr & Mrs M, Sandown, Isle of Wight

"We were really pleased with the service we received and it did exactly as it said on the tin. Dad is now out of hospital and has cash in the bank, which has meant he can see his Grandchildren enjoy their inheritance."

Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is a non-metropolitan ceremonial county and also the largest island of the British Isles. Newport is the administrative centre of the Isle of Wight, which has an approximate population of 138,500.

Isle of Wight House Prices

The average rate of annual house price inflation on the Isle of Wight currently stands at around two and a half per cent. This particular rate of inflation would best be described as slow and steady. However, given the manner in which house prices on the Isle of Wight have hit the headlines recently, that may very well not be a good thing.

In general, house prices on the Isle of Wight are still 10% lower than the peak levels they achieved in 2007, before the onset of the global financial crisis and the subsequent housing market meltdown that ensued shortly afterwards.

Along with Teeside, County Durham and West Yorkshire, average house prices on the Isle of Wight have the furthest distance to cover than any place in the country before they are able to attain the heights they managed to reach during the housing market boom of 2007.

These figures are only general averages and do not fully represent each and every distinct area within the Isle of Wight, where some areas have witnessed far higher levels of house value appreciation than the current average of 2.48%, while there has been severe depreciation in other places, taking them even further away from their 2007 highs.

If you want an individualised and accurate valuation of your property that reflects the true value of your home, contact National Homebuyers. We offer fast, accurate, fully comprehensive, no obligation property valuations that take into account every variable affecting your home’s value.

Isle of Wight Culture, Attractions & Things to Do

The Isle of Wight has an extremely healthy tourism industry and has been a major holiday destination since the 19th century. There are several resorts on the island, four of which still boasts piers. Blackgang Chine is arguably the country’s oldest theme park and is definitely one of the oldest in the world.

The Isle of Wight Festival, Bestival and Cowes Week are just some of the major highlights of the Isle of Wight annual events calendar.

The island is one of the country’s biggest draws for cycling holidaymakers with multiple cycling locations across the county. The breathtaking scenery also attracts hosts of walking enthusiasts.

Isle of Wight Tradition & History

The Isle of Wight enters the annals of recorded history earlier than any other county in Britain, having first been mentioned in Ptolemy’s Geography.

Having successfully subdued the indigenous Durotriges tribe, the Romans named the island Vectis, still detectable in the fact that two of the sobriquets by which residents of the Isle of Wight are known are Vectensians and Vectians.

After the Romans withdrew from Britain the island became a Jutish kingdom ruled over by King Stuf and his descendants. Following the short-lived consequences of a 7th century Mercian invasion, the Isle of Wight was effectively brought into the fold of the empire of mighty Wessex and became the last area of the country to convert to Christianity in 686.

The Isle of Wight was briefly a kingdom during the 15th century when Henry VI personally crowned Henry de Beauchamp King of the Isle of Wight. However, the kingdom only lasted as long as Beauchamp did, reverting back to a Lordship when he died without issue in 1446.

During the English Civil War, having become lost in the New Forest during an attempt to flee to Jersey, Charles I mistakenly sought refuge on the Isle of Wight, where the governor imprisoned him in Carisbrooke Castle.

The Isle of Wight has served as a staging post for countless naval operations, from the Seven Years War to Operation Pluto, and was also Queen Victoria’s favourite refuge.
